Occupational Therapists and current research recommends lap pads be a maximum weight of 5% of the clients total body weight, as the weight is concentrated on the upper legs. However it is also suggested that no more than two pounds of weight be applied with any client, and even less with preschoolers or kindergartners.

These therapy throws are made with multiple fabric layers, the top layer being "no seam" which often distracts the user with a bottom layer of fleece to keep the lap pad in place.
Our weighted lap throws use state of the art poly pellets that are evenly distributed throughout the blanket-there will be no "pooling" of beads in one corner-sewn within, out of sight. The PolyPro pellets used are non-porous and rated to 600 degrees making them easily machine washed and dried. The pellets have proven highly effective in applying deep pressure, hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and recommended and used by professionals as a superior weighting material.

Studies prove that patients in the hospital approaching surgery or recovering from it, benefit greatly from deep pressure touch stimulation (DPTS) supplied by the weight in our products, that is believed to release a chemical in the brain, which naturally calms called Serotonin. Serotonin releases a pleasurable endorphin that gives you a sense of happiness, converting to Melatonin that gradually calms and relaxes you for sleep.
